Returned Overseas Students Establish Enterprises
2001-01-01

Nearly 200 Chinese students, who recently returned from studying overseas, are working in the fields of telecommunication, software and bio-pharmacy in Xi'an
High-tech Development Zone, in the capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

An official with the high-tech development zone said the zone already has 56 enterprises established by students who have returned from overseas. He also noted that government departments have provided 10 million yuan (approximately 1.2 million U.S. dollars) every year to support returned students to set up and run enterprises.

The zone issued Regulation on Attracting Returned Overseas Students to Start Enterprises last year, stating that with 10,000 U.S. dollars or 30,000 yuan, returning students can register enterprises in the zone and can use the 100,000 yuan worth of land for three years free of charge.

Xi'an high-tech development zone has invested 150 million yuan (approximately 18.07 million U.S. dollars) in building up service facilities for returned students.
