Beijing University, one of China's prestigious universities, has begun the building of a science and technology park, which will stretches about 1 million square meters, enlarging the campus by one third.
President Xu Zhihong said the project will help bring the infrastructure of the university's in line with its ambition to become a first-rate university in the world.
The park will offer the necessary infrastructure for high-technology research and development and function as a incubator ofhigh-tech enterprises, he said.
It will have three parts, namely, the east, south and west areas, all of which will be completed in five years.
When it is finished, the university will have a relatively separate zones for teaching and technological development, he added.
