Colleges Urged to Accelerate Logistics Reform
2001-12-10

Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing here Sunday called for greater efforts to accelerate the reform of college logistics services, in a bid to improve the country's higher education.

Speaking at a national conference on college logistics reform Saturday in this capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, the vice-premier stressed that the college logistic service sector will face serious challenges as China is to expand its higher education on a large scale during the coming 5-10 years.

He urged governments at all levels to play a leading role in the reform, saying leading provincial-level officials should try to work out effective methods to overcome the barriers to the reform.

Li said the financial institutions concerned should move actively to provide loans to help construct dormitory buildings and grant loans to poor students.

Li said the logistics service system should be separated from the college administration system.

The logistic service providers should take into full consideration the needs of education and research work in colleges, and improve their services in accordance with the demands of  teachers and students, rather than only aiming at earning higher profits, Li stressed.
