The number of colleges and universities run by local people has been increased by 17, including three in Shanghai, the Ministry of Education said yesterday as eastday.com reported.

Shanghai Jiguang Vocational Technical College, Shanghai Jianqiao Vocational Technical College and Shanghai Business Foreign Language Vocational College are the three new institutions run by Shanghai local people allowed to issue higher education certificates.

There are now altogether 76 colleges of this kind throughout the country,with 72 colleges and 4 adult schools.
