U.S. Academy Choir Performs in Beijing

The Phillips Academy Cantata Choir and Chamber Orchestra of the United States gave a performance here Sunday evening.

The choir and orchestra are touring China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).

The choir and orchestra, with more than 150 members, performed works by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Handel and Haydn in the presence of CPAFFC President Chen Haosu and Vice Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.

Established in 1778, the Phillips Academy is a prestigious residential secondary school. The school's most distinguished graduates include the inventor of the standard telegram code, Samuel Morse, former U.S. President George Bush and U.S. President George W. Bush.

The Academy's China concert tour is sponsored by the U.S. Committee of 100 Cultural Institute, the United Technologies International Operation and the Eric Hotung Trust Foundation.
