A slow-down economy has made three of every 10 Seoul National University graduates fail to get jobs so far this year.

Some 71.1 percent of the total 3,868 graduates who completed their four-year studies in February found jobs while the remaining 28.9 percent are still looking for, according to a report issued by the best South Korean university Monday.

The 71.1 percent included students who entered post-graduate schools and those who joined the army to complete their obligatory duty.

The unemployment rate is shocking since the university has been claimed a "free zone from joblessness" so far.

The employment rate for the university graduates stood at 74.6 percent in 1999 and 72.4 percent in 2000.

In terms of department, the Humanities Department ranked the highest in unemployment rate with 41.6 percent, followed by the Law with 39.4, the Education 39.3 percent and the Agriculture and Life 31.9 percent, the Business Administration 24.9 percent and the Medicine 11.8 percent.
