The University which is a joint venture between the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University, opened its doors to its first intake of students in 2006, on four year undergraduate programmes. The operation of the University is supported by four seamlessly interfaced centres, including Centre for Administration, Centre for Students, Centre for Academic Services and Centre for Development & External Affairs. The directors of these four centres report directly to one of the members in the Senior Management Team – a small group of top executives who provides overall leadership to the University affairs.
The following positions are currently available in the four centres:
1. Centre for Administration
1) Director of the Centre for Administration: (Ref-CD/Adm/09)
Currently the Centre for Administration consists of the following offices: Human Resources, Finance, Campus Management (including procurement) and the President’s Office. Therefore, the Director of the Centre for Administration is expected to have strong leadership to drive the continuous improvements of the University’s administrative service and should be versatile in handling challenges from various aspects of the administrative operation.
Candidates should have a Master degree or above, a track record in past career and solid experience in management. Past experiences in general management or human resources strongly preferred.
2. Centre for Students
1) Director of the Centre for Students: (Ref-CD/Stu/09)
The Centre for Students consists of the offices of Student Admission Office, Student Affairs Office and Career Development Office. Therefore, the Director of the Centre for Students has the responsibility of leading all the operations that are directly related to students. He or she must be very familiar with the different aspects of students’ life and study, sensitive to the market dynamics of student admission and career placement and capable of managing student affairs during all sorts of circumstances.
Successful candidates should have a Master degree or above, management experience in an education institution and solid past experience of direct interaction with students. PhD degree holder is preferred.
2) Head of the Student Affairs Office: (Ref-HD/Stu/09)
As one of the offices under the Centre for Students, the Student Affairs Office is the main interface between the University and the existing students. It not only provides guidance but also facilitates the student activities in many different ways to support the growth of the students.
Candidates should have a Master’s degree or above and successful past experience working with students.
3. Centre for Academic Affairs:
1) Head of Research Office: (Ref-HD/Res/09)
In order to realize its vision, XJTLU needs to fully develop and implement its research strategy. When fully developed, the University will have about 10,000 students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supported by about 500 academic staff undertaking teaching and research in Business, Management, Science and Engineering.
Applications are invited for the post of Head of Research at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Candidates should have experience in liaising with Chinese Research funding bodies and multi-national organisations. The candidate needs to be fluent in Chinese and also able to communicate in English. Candidates should have at least a Master’s degree and ideally a Ph.D.
2) Head of Management Information Systems (Ref-HD/MIS/09)
The University is now in a critical stage of development and needs to implement appropriate Management Information Systems to meet the needs of a growing research led university.
Applications are invited for the post of Head of Management Information Systems at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Candidates should have a Master degree in related fields and have experience in the selection and deployment of Management Information Systems for medium and large scale organisations. The postholder will initially be expected to undertake a requirements analysis for the University’s Management Information Systems which will include finance, HR, Student Records etc., before selecting the most appropriate solutions. The postholder will then be responsible for overseeing the development and deployment of these systems.
3) Head of Information Technology Services (Ref-HD/IT/09)
The Head of IT services is expected to lead a team of IT supporting staff to handle all the services related to information technology. In addition to a university degree in a relevant field, previous experience in MS Windows and Unix/Linux administration as well as good knowledge of networked computing issues and state-of-the-art software and hardware solutions are essential. Experience in the management of IT facilities, preferably in a mixed MS Windows and Unix/Linux environment, is required. Experience with the management of PBX systems is also required. The ideal candidate should have previous experience of leading an IT Support Team at a Chinese University. A service oriented attitude, very good command of English and good interpersonal skills are required.
4) Campus Development Project Manager (Ref-PM/CDO/09)
The project manager works in the Campus Development Office and has an exciting and challenging role to work in partnership with the developers’ design and construction team in the early phases of a new developing University. By closely working with the developers, the project manager is expected to monitor and oversee the entire processes of the newly constructed buildings on campus, including the design, construction, quality inspection, health & safety compliance, etc. Successful candidates should have at least a master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related majors.
All the above positions require strong proficiencies in English, including written and verbal usage. The University offers competitive compensation. Remuneration for the above positions will be in the range of 12,500 – 24,750 RMB/Month, depending on different positions and past experience.
4. Centre for Development and External Affairs
1). Brand & Marketing Officer (Ref-OF/BMO/09)
Applications are invited for the post of Brand & Marketing Officer at the Brand & Marketing Office. The post-holder is mainly responsible for all XJTLU branding and marketing related activities including
● Developing and maintaining the university website
● Producing marketing and publicity materials
● Initiating and managing branding and marketing activities
● Producing and organizing news reports
● Producing XJTLU Information Bulletin to be published monthly and delivered to the various stakeholders
● Dealing with other press related work at the university
Successful candidates should have excellent writing skills (both English and Chinese) and a relevant Masters degree. Relevant work experience at a brand and marketing related post are strongly preferred. The salary range for this post is RMB5000-8000/month depending upon qualifications and experience.
2). Development Projects Officer (Ref-OF/DPO/09)
Applications are invited for the post of Development Projects Officer at the Development & Planning Office. The post-holder is mainly responsible for initiating and managing all new development projects including:
● Identifying business opportunities
● Developing and managing each new project
● Negotiating with potential clients or customers
● Communicating with other staff or departments to make the best use of the internal resources in developing and implementing new projects
Successful candidates should have excellent writing skills (both English and Chinese); and a relevant Masters degree. Relevant work experience at a project development and management related post are strongly preferred. The salary range for this post is RMB5000-8000/month depending upon qualifications and experience.
