Participant were drawing lots

Learning from the person in charge of this activity, the match was started on 9:00 am of Saturday morning. Then we arrived at Beijing Foreign Language University as early as possible before 8:00 am to record the whole wonderful contest. After a morning of tense arrangement, around 8:30 international participants from Tsinghua University, Beijing Language and Culture University, China University of Petroleum Beijing, North China University of Technology came to the waiting hall. After registration, contestants began to draw lots one by one to decide the starting order. Each one would have a unique number in hand. For contest in three classrooms was going at the same time, the process went rapidly and smoothly.

Careful preparation in the waiting classroom

During participants' preparation time, we interviewed some of them. From their talking, we learnt that most of them have studied Chinese for a long time. And this is a quite good opportunity for them to proof their Chinese level and their keen interest in Chinese culture. Everybody would play their best to give judges and spectators talent show. A young guy with a guitar attached our eyes, after a short conversation, we knew that he was Malaysia with twelve years' Chinese study experience. Now he is a post-graduate in Tsinghua University. And what is special is he had entered the First Mandarin Star contest last year, but unfortunately he could not knock open the final door. He never gave up his Mandarin Star dream, and today taking his own composing work, he would give everyone beautiful enjoyment.

We watched a performance by Cameroonian-Vietnamese group and members are separately from Tsinghua University and Beijing Language and Culture University. After they personal essay reading, the highlight was coming, including telling jokes, singing a recomposed a Taiwan famous singers' song-<Go Back to the Past>. At the end, judges in-site all spoke highly of their talent show.

Besides, the Belarus- Kazakhstan girls' group Taichi performance was equally attractive. Xiaoyu, a contestant from Egypt, now is studying in Beijing language and Culture University. He let us see his own essay named <China's Hero>, and from the content, we could clearly see his enthusiastic about China and Chinese people.

During the two days of competition, contestant's excellent Chinese language capacity and understanding of Chinese culture brought us great surprising! We wish every participant good luck and expect more and more splendid performance in the semi-final round on May 15th-16th.
