Enhance Disciplinary Establishment, Across-Discipline Penetration and Schooling Characteristics

Disciplinary establishment defines the direction for colleges to survive and develop.

It is the definite direction and function for colleges to foster high-level professionals of innovative spirits and practical abilities, enhance the scientific research and utilize the advantages in talents to provide services for the economic and social development in the regions. The unification and development of these three aspects are all based on the disciplinary establishment, whose structure, features, quality and individuality in turn determine the survival and development of colleges.

Our development lies in the advantage of across-discipline penetration.

At present, Tianjin University of Commerce has nearly 10,000 students studying for 30 kinds of bachelor’s degree. Then, how to educate these students to become talents of high qualities to cater for the various demands from every industry in the whole country and Tianjin, and to compete in the heated economic competition around the globe with understanding in the “gaming” rules in the market economy at home and abroad? This is the final target for us to enhance the disciplinary establishment, improve the teaching quality, reshape the school image and elevate the teachers’ level. We have position the education at the across-discipline penetration, which meets the demands for inter-disciplinary talents in the society, and also enables us to stay and develop in the competition for talents.

The key of our development is to form the schooling characteristics.

The schooling characteristics are a series of relatively stable peculiarities formed, deposited and accumulated in the long schooling process, which are revealed in such aspects as schooling philosophy, moral orientation, educational methods, disciplinary establishment and scientific research, administrative mechanism, educational style, and the mental outlook of teachers and students as well. It is not only the strategic choice for school’s development, but also the essential basis and target for schooling, which reflects the schooling philosophy and target.

Internationalization of higher education is a process insurmountable process

With the economic globalization, China will deepen and expand its participation in the international exchanges of economy upon its entry into WTO. As the Chinese economy steps towards the world, it requires that the higher education fosters more professional talents familiar with the international exchanges of economy and the international “gaming rules”. The internationalization of higher education is inevitable during the process of our development. Therefore, it is supposed to do well in two aspects. On one hand, its standards of education must accord with the international principles. On the other hand, it is imperative to actively initiate the international cooperation and exchanges, and gradually promote profound communication in teachers, students, pedagogical plans, management, contents, methods and teaching materials.
