HK university develops "automatic human face recognition system"
2005-10-09

Chinese University of Hong Kong has succeeded in developing an "automatic human face recognition system" at a cost of millions of yuan, Hong Kong media reported.

The system inspects human faces from the images taken with camera, compares them with those stored in its database and then determines the person's identity.

Sources say the technology can be applied in the fields of judicial administration, security and visual monitoring. For example, it can accelerate Customs inspection on vehicles and prevent fraud with photos.

The system can automatically track moving human faces and doesn't need users' special cooperation. Just in one second, it can inspect anyone (except those who have taken plastic surgery).
