A Russian carrier rocket put three satellites of its Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) in orbit on Sunday, the Space Troops said.

A Proton-K rocket carrying the three GLONASS satellites blasted off from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 8:07 a.m. (0507 GMT), said Alexei Kuznetsov, spokesman of the Space Troops, quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency.

The satellites separated from the carrier rocket and reached their target orbits later.

GLONASS is designed to provide navigation to sea, air, space and land users in any part of the globe. Fourteen GLONASS satellites are currently in orbit.
