Twenty-four Chinese mountaineers and researchers had safely returned to their base located at the altitude of 8,300 meters by 7 p.m. on Sunday after finishing all the scheduled measuring works on the top of Mount Qomolangma earlier on Sunday.

They left the summit at about 12:25 (Beijing Time) Sunday after spending 77 minutes on the summit erecting a survey beacon and measuring the mountain's height by using GPS and radar devices, according to sources from the headquarters.

Experts at the headquarters told Xinhua the team was unlikely to experience substantial dangers after descending to the height of 8,300 meters.

The 24 Chinese expeditioners started at 3:30 a.m. their assault on Mount Qomolangma, the summit of the earth, and scaled the peak after an 8-hour mountain trek.

The mountaineers and researchers would continue to descend to bases at lower altitudes after taking some rest, according to the headquarters coordinating the expedition.
