2005-09-08

The Chinese version of Encyclopedia Britannica, another key achievement of Sino-US cultural exchange, was published by Encyclopedia of China Publishing House recently, and will be put on the shelf during the Second Beijing International Book Fair.

Being a key project of Sino-US cultural exchange and cooperation, the Chinese version of Encyclopedia Britannica has created a new situation of Sino-US trade in copyright. Since the signing of Sino-US cooperation agreement in 1980, Encyclopedia of China Publishing House and Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc. have forged fruitful cooperation.

The newly published Britannica Concise Encyclopedia (two volumes) is the latest achievements by the two sides, and its Chinese version is translated from the latest English version. There are nearly 30,000 entries and over 2,000 pictures, diagrams as well as maps. For the convenience of various readers, texts of the entries are arranged in accordance to their Chinese Phonetic Alphabet orders, with the index of strokes of Chinese title and the contrastive index of titles in English and Chinese.
