Nearly 100 applied research projects are exhibited on Friday at the Faculty Industrial Day organized by the City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

Exhibited projects were developed by researchers of CityU's Faculty of Science and Engineering. They bring about an array of low-cost and innovative high-tech products that enjoy keen support from the industrial sector.

A total of nine industrial companies donated over 8 million HK dollars to support the faculty's teaching and research activities.

Kicking off the Industrial Day, CityU President Professor H.K. Chang said, "Our applied research has won recognition and support from the industrial sector. We will continue our role as a provider of professional education with special emphasis on applied research."

The faculty not only dedicated to providing professional education but also actively collaborating with the industry to carry out a variety of applied research projects.

Some of the projects displayed at the exhibition include: a compact, low-cost Doppler-Radar ideal for measuring the speed of athletes in running, skiing or cycling; light weight concrete which are 25 to 35 percent lighter than conventional concrete for building and construction; and a Rehab System that helps to restore postural stability in elderly and arthritis patients who have problems balancing their bodies.

In addition to the display of research prototypes, project demonstrations and information panels, the faculty's professors and researchers also introduced their researches through lectures.
