America hammering out "world digital library"
2005-11-25

The library of US Congress started on November 22 its plan to create a "world digital library", under which precious books, manuscripts, stamps, posters and other materials of various countries will be digitalized and shared on the Internet.

On top of data from the Congress library, precious books from Europe, Asia and Africa will also be included.

Librarian of Congress James Hadley Billington said he hopes such a library can bridge and demonstrate world cultures and draw peoples together.

The Librarian called for public or individual donations for the project, and his library has received the first fund of 3 million US dollars from Google company.
