IBM Blue Gene/L remains world's fastest supercomputer

World's top 500 supercomputers were unveiled on Nov. 14, 2005 with IBM Blue Gene/L staying at the top place at 280.6 TFlop/s.

The latest rankings of world's top 500 supercomputers were released at a supercomputer conference held in Seattle, the United States.

The ranking was inaugurated in 1993 then undertaken by American and German universities annually.

IBM Blue Gene/L had been at the first place in the last two rankings.

Blue Gene/L now serves the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory of the United States.

In the past six months, the supercomputer doubled the size of its system with greatly enhanced performance.

Experts with the appraisal panel say, with current tendency, Blue Gene/L will keep its leading position in the top 500 rankings for another several years.
