2001-12-06

Latest statistics released by the survey on China's Internet bandwidth show China's Internet bandwidth of international exit has been up to 5724 megahertz by the end of September, two times over last year, according to today's  People's Daily Online.

The survey, conducted by China Internet Center in the second half year, is aimed to trace China's Internet development in a comprehensive way. Sources said it's the first time to launch such survey in China.

The increase represents fast development of telecommunication
The survey indicates that by the end of 30th September China's Internet bandwidth of international exit has reached 5724 megahertz against 2799 megahertz in January. Within the short span of nine months, the Internet bandwidth increased 2925 megahertz, with a rise of 105 percent, which represents the rapid development in China's telecommunication infrastructure construction and information gathering.

The survey also shows the bandwidth of China's top ten Internet companies, of which China Public Internet's bandwidth of 4580 megahertz takes the lead, accounting for 80 percent of the total amount. The linking bandwidth of 3558 megahertz between the top ten companies and the Internet Exchange Center marks the improvement in Internet linking. Mao Wei, supervisor with China Internet Center, said that the survey will assist the central government and the enterprises concerned to make macro and commercial decisions.
