Chinese Eager to Pursue Higher Degree
2001-11-14

Tens of thousands of Chinese swarmed to major universities around the countries over the weekend to registration their names for the coming graduate admission test for 2002, reported Monday's China Youth Daily.

On November 10, the first day for registration, earnest candidates started arriving at People's University of China early in the morning and formed a line of over 100 meters long.

The five-day nationwide registration encompasses degrees for MBA and Master of Laws.

Last year, the Education Ministry decided to enroll more graduates to meet the increasing demand. Three percent more than 2000 will be included in this year's plan and the total number is expected to be 156,000.

In addition, eligible candidates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are welcomed to take the admission tests and study in the Mainland.

On-line registration is available this year. Prospective students can fill the form via Internet before hand and only have to confirm the information when hand in test fee on the official posts.

Agencies providing tests strategies are also busy handing out pamphlets of advertising, said the newspaper.
