| When learning how to teach a language, distance learning is no substitute for visiting the country where it's spoken. Foreign language teachers of primary and middle schools in China now have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to study abroad. Five to six million yuan will be invested every year by the government to provide the scholarships. 100 outstanding teachers were selected after getting top marks in national standardised exams. By studying further they will catch up on the lastest education methods and be able to learn ways to improve foreign language education in China. 30 of the selected 100 teachers will go to England's Nottingham University. They will receive six-months of training classes about English learning skills. And they will learn modern foreign language education methods. Another 70 teachers will be sent to the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. The ten-year plan aims to train 1000 high-quality foreign language teachers for Chinese primary and middle schools. |
