2001-09-06

Beijing University of Language and Culture will start an on-line Chinese teaching program this  month. The teachers will teach Chinese to students around the  world via the Internet.

Many countries have listed Chinese as a foreign language  subject for college entrance examinations, and set teaching  outlines for the Chinese language. China set up a group for  teaching foreigners Chinese, and Chen Zhili, the minister of  Education has taken office as the group leader.

As the only Chinese university to provide on-line Chinese  teaching programs and offer diplomas, the Beijing University of  Language and Culture On-line Education College will offer two  specialties, one is the Chinese language and the other, Chinese  for business and trade.

Experts pointed out that the opening of the on-line Chinese  teaching program will provide more opportunities for people who  want to study Chinese, as well as pushing forward Chinese teaching.

Since China held the first national conference on teaching  Chinese to foreigners in 1988, over 250,000 foreigners have come  to China to study Chinese. Over 300 Chinese colleges and  universities have received foreign students.
